Hotel del Coronado – Video
I walked on the beach in front of the Hotel del Coronado this week. It was a spectacular sunny day (70-something in November) and I pretended I’d won the “Romantic Getaway in a Beachfront Resort.”
First, let me assure you that I’m not going to win, but whoever does is going to have a fantastic time.
After the walk, I really wanted to go for swim in the Hotel del Coronado pool - but that priviledge is reserved for registered guests (which the winners will be). Instead, I lurked around the lobby for a while and soaked up some of the historic ambience.
Hotel del Coronado – did you know that:
- the Hotel del Coronado, with its iconic red turrets, was L. Frank Baum’s inspiration for the Emerald City in his famous Wizard of Oz book series?
- And that Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis stayed at the Hotel del Coronado in 1958 while they were filming Some Like It Hot?
But the hotel isn’t just an historic landmark. It’s a really cool place for a vacation. Check out this video:
Did you pick up the happy-resort-community vibe? Lots of promotional travel videos try to project this feeling, but they fall flat because it isn’t real. However, Coronado really is a “happy place.”
The combination of beautiful beaches, historic mansions and small town coziness make Coronado a very appealing destination. That’s why numerous U.S. Presidents, including Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, have chosen to vacation here with their families. (Chelsea was cited for not wearing a helmet while bike riding; Bill loved the local golf course and broke 80 for the first time.)
Speaking of historic mansions, in addition to two nights at the Hotel del, the winners of the Coronado Getaway will also stay two nights in the Spreckles Mansion at Glorietta Bay Inn. This charming boutique hotel overlooks Glorietta Bay Marina, which is a hotspot for boating activity.
I live in La Jolla, less than 20 miles from Coronado, but – like many San Diegans – frequently escape to this almost-island when I feel the need for a change of pace. My sisters-in-law and I had a great time at the Spa Coronado at the Coronado Island Marriott Resort. With my husband, I enjoyed a enjoyed a gondola ride and dinner at Mistral at Loews Coronado Bay Resort.
It’s no coincidence that these experiences are included in the “Romantic Getaway in a Beachfront Resort.” I want you to have a wonderful time in Coronado – so please click on this link and enter to win the contest.
Cheers,
