San Diego Trip Planning
Some people are ho-hum about their home town, but not me. I’ve lived in San Diego most of my life and appreciate it more every day.
When I’m in Balboa Park, I gape at the truly elegant Spanish Colonial architecture as if I was seeing it for the first time. I never tire of watching sailboats and Navy ships and wind surfers as I walk along San Diego Bay.
My attitude is no doubt influenced by the fact that I’m a travel journalist, and I’ve been all over the world researching and photographing other places. I also see San Diego from a visitor’s point of view, having written Frommer’s San Diego guidebook and San Diego stories for Travel & Leisure and National Geographic Traveler.
Most folks have heard about our great weather, beautiful beaches, and many miles of Pacific Ocean coastline, but don’t realize that San Diego is an amalgam of many communities. I live in La Jolla – on the coast about 12 miles from downtown – which is best known for beaches, great dining, watersports, and beautiful homes and gardens.
I’m so crazy about La Jolla that I created a Web site – La Jolla Travel Information – so visitors would have the inside scoop and get the most from the time they spend here.
In addition, I do trip planning – not just for travelers coming to La Jolla – but for anyone visiting San Diego. Sometimes clients just want me to look at a vacation rental they’re considering or make suggestions for a special-occasion dinner. I’ve also been asked to recommend yoga classes, kayak rentals, and – of course – hotels.
If you’d like my help planning your trip, I’d enjoy sharing ways to go behind the scenes at the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld, sample San Diego’s craft beer scene, and get tickets for a play or concert. Since I’m the travel editor at Ranch & Coast, San Diego’s ultimate lifestyle magazine, it’s easy for me to stay up to speed on what’s happening in our community.
