Your Favorite Hotels in Paris and Beyond
Hotels in Paris. Hotels outside of Paris. Hotels all around the world.
Last October I asked “what is your favorite hotel anywhere in the world” and 473 readers replied by leaving a comment on this post The result is a wonderful, annotated list of places to stay around the globe from Antigua to Zanzibar.
If I wasn’t so hopeless when it comes to working in Excel, you would have had this information sooner. As it is, I can’t only provide it now because Christie Dengler came to my rescue.
My plan is to share the lodgings you love by country, starting today with France.
Hotels in Paris
Four Seasons Hotel Georges V is your clear favorite. Located in the heart of Paris, just off the Champs-Elysées, this famed address embodies the elegance and romance of the City of Lights. Luxury rooms and suites, many with private terraces, are located in a landmark building that dates from 1928.
As one reader summarized: “I have fond memories of a stay here. Centrally located, beautifully aged, beautiful courtyard – need I say more?”
The Hilton, the InterContinental Paris Le Grand, and the Ritz-Carlton are some of your other preferred hotels in Paris. In addition, Terry said “Hotel Meurice is my all-time favorite.”

Hotels in France outside of Paris
Juan-les-Pins is a popular holiday destination located on the Côte d’ Azur between Nice and Cannes. Here, Marilyn recommends the Sainte Valerie Hotel, “A small boutique hotel, lovely breakfast outside on the patio. Walking distance to the shopping rea of Juan les Pins and the famous Pinede. A 5 minute walk to the beach – I recommend the Plage des Pirates where you can not only have a lounge chair and umbrella, but lunch in the sand!”
In Nice, Suzanne likes Hotel la Perouse, built on a hillside with spectacular sea views and easy access to beaches and the heart of the city.
Biarritz? Nancy likes Hotel du Palais Imperial Resort & Spa, located on a headland between two beautiful beaches. Considered a national monument, the hotel opened in 1893. Biarritz is a resort town on the Atlantic coast near the border with Spain known for its surf scene.
Bruce gives high marks to the 73-room Grand Hotel Beauvau in Marseille. It’s located in the center of the city across from the Vieux Port. Check here for the best rate.
Mark Bologna likes the elegant Trianon Palace in Versailles, about 12 miles outside of Paris. David touts the five-room Rue du Château in Tarascon in the heart of Provence. Of the Hotel Le Cheval Rouge in Villandry, Loire Valley, Andy says “…The food and location make it even better.”
Also in the Loire Valley, my friend Philippe Grummer recommends the 17th- and 18th-century chateau Chateau d’Hodebert .
In Lyon, Maralyn D. Hill likes Villa Florentine, a Relais & Chateau property. “When I’m staying in luxury, it’s by far my favorite,” she said. “Radison Blu and Novotel are other options.” BTW, Maralyn loves the restaurant Le Sud in Lyon.

Happy travels,
Favorite hotels around the world will be a delicious list to read! Excellent idea Elizabeth…Le Meurice in Paris has one of the best roof tops in the city to sip and savour.
Great list! I would add to this list, the Prince de Galles, the Fouquet’s Barrière, the Park Hyatt Vendôme Paris, the Mandarin Oriental and last but not least, the Shangri-La! Any of those would delight anybody staying there.
Looks like I have a few more hotels to visit! Currently in love with all things boutique in Paris!
