Bid on Travel Bargains
I want you to know about the SATW online auction taking place from now until December 30. This is a terrific opportunity for you to bid on travel bargains – and I mean real bargains.
SATW is the Society of American Travel Writers, “Travel’s Most Trusted Voices.” I’ve been a member for longer than I care to admit – and one of the coolest things they do is request donations of hotel nights, cruises, meals, lift tickets and other travel items and hold an auction once a year. It’s a fund raiser for the organization, but the real winners are the savvy travelers who bid on the items – and you’d be silly not to at least take a look.
Right now a 6-Day Windjammer Cruise Schooner on American Eagle (estimated value US$2,002) is going for US$200.
The Fairmont St Andrews in Scotland is offering three nights accommodation in a Deluxe Sea View Guestroom with full Scottish breakfast, and 18 holes of golf on The Torrance or The Kittocks Course. The estimated value is US$1,255.50 and the current bid is US$350.
I promise you that any golfer you know would swear undying affection if this was his or her Valentine’s gift. St. Andrews is the home of golf and the Fairmont is a great hotel.
At the moment, no one has bid on the lift tickets at Mt. Snow in Vermont (a US$170 value), so you might get a real deal there.
I think the Longevity Detox and Wellness Program for Two sounds really intriguing: “Discover magical Monchique in the alluring Algarve of Portugal, and regain your vitality at the resort that Tatler Magazine named the Most Life-Changing Spa.” Who doesn’t need this after the holidays?
SATW also sponsors the Traveling Teddy Program that helps children in participating elementary school classes learn geography and develop understanding of international cultures, and the organization works diligently to encourage the conservation and preservation of travel resources worldwide.
So get busy and bid on travel bargains.
Santa isn’t the only one bringing gifts this year.
