Newsweek called Surf Diva “The Starbucks of Surfing Schools.”

I’m excited to share with you that the “Wonderful La Jolla Getaway” we announced last week has attracted a lot of attention. In fact, two very cool local businesses have asked to be included.

Surf Diva, the lengendary surf school in La Jolla Shores, has added a surf lesson for two people to the winner’s prize.

Now before you say “I’m not in shape to learn to surf,” consider that Surf Diva co-founders and twin sisters Coco and Izzy Tihanyi have been surfing for over 30 years and they run a really tight ship. They only employ instructors who are trained to work with people of all ages and skill levels – and the school’s motto is “The best surfer in the water is the one having the most fun.”

Surf Diva was the world’s first surf school for women and girls and has been featured in the New York Times, Time Magazine, and USA Today, as well on the Today Show. Newsweek called Surf Diva “The Starbucks of surf schools.”

Since Surf Diva opened in 1996, they’ve taught thousands of kids, teens, moms, and movie stars to have fun in the water and maybe even stand up on the board.

“Catching a wave and riding it on your tummy can be just as exhilarating! It’s not about looking good, and it’s not about competition. It’s about having fun, meeting new people, and learning something that is life-enriching,” the sisters say.

The garrabaldi is the state fish. You might see one during your surf lesson.

In recent years, by popular demand, Surf Diva has begun teaching boys and men of all ages - most are trying this increasingly popular sport for the first time. I’m happy that the winners of the “Wonderful La Jolla Getaway” will have an opportunity to enjoy a Surf Diva lesson for two.

I’m also really pleased that Shira Bliss of La Jolla Wine Tours offered to add a La Jolla Beer/Wine and Food Walking Tour to the winner’s prize. These “all-inclusive eating, drinking, and walking experiences” are a great way to learn about our local specialties with a guide who knows most of the restaurant owners around town.

In the course of 3 – 4 hours, guests sample fine wines and taste a variety of different foods. Where you go and what you eat and drink will depend on the season and which chef wants to show off something new. Shira will advise the winners of the “Wonderful La Jolla Getaway” on which tour to join.

La Jolla’s foodie scene ranges from seriously gourmet to somewhat silly.
