Miami Airport Hotel – Not Fancy But Handy
Miami Airport Hotel – You already know I’m crazy about airport hotels, right? The Fairmont at Vancouver Airport (YVR) and Grand Hyatt at Dallas (DFW) are two of my favorites. Miami International Airport Hotel is never going to be my favorite, but it offers the most important quality of an airport hotel: the luxury of convenience.
Located in Concourse E of Miami Airport (MIA), the hotel is steps away from the check-in counters of concourse D, the international “terminal,” and offers great beds and extremely soundproof windows. That’s the good news. The not-so-good news is that rooms are smallish and dated and the 7th floor restaurant – and this is me being kind – cannot be recommended.
I love the convenience of the Miami Airport Hotel
We first stayed at Miami Airport Hotel after our visit to the island of Nevis, when our flight from St. Kitts arrived in Miami too late to connect with an outbound flight to San Diego. What I remember about this stay is picking up a pizza from CPK and enjoying it while we watched a movie on the flat screen in our room.
More recently – as in last night – we were en route from San Diego to Lima, Peru and encountered the same schedule situation. However, this time we skipped California Pizza Kitchen and chose the restaurant instead.
In all fairness, the hotel is being refurbished, but I think even when the work in process has been completed, it will still be a good idea to dine at one of the many eateries in the airport. Doug Hamilton who contributed a great guest post on Normandy, recommends Café Versailles in Terminals D, E, and F. Specifically the guava and cheese pastry accompanied by a café con leche.
Depending on the length of your layover, you may want to explore further afield in Miami. In this case, I recommend Little Havana Restaurant in North Miami where the hospitality and the food are both delicious.
Safe travels,
